Strategy games that respect your commute

Strategy games that respect your commute

Console strategy assumes you have a free evening. Mobile strategy has to assume you have four minutes before your stop. The games that understand this are the ones I keep installed.

Iron Tide Command is a good example. It's turn-based and deliberate, so putting the phone away mid-plan costs you nothing. You pick right back up where you left off, and the game even reminds you what you were scheming.

The trap a lot of mobile strategy falls into is fake urgency — timers that punish you for having a life. The good ones drop that entirely. Depth doesn't have to mean pressure.

If you're new to the genre on phone, start slow, ignore anything that pesters you with countdowns, and look for games where a smart move three turns ago pays off now. That delayed satisfaction is the whole point.
